A key ingredient to unity within the family and among neighborhood families is organized competitive athletics. Being that I live in North County and am father (and prior coach) of a 10 year old boy, I've had the pleasure of witnessing fantastic competitive games featuring many extremely skilled young athletes.
The soccer league Carlsbad Lightning, which recently fused with the Carlsbad Wave to form a new organization called Carlsbad United FC, is the league shown in this photo, which is my son's All-Star team. Tournaments like this bring many different teams from various towns together, unifying them as they cheer the children's efforts.
