Oceanside Pier

Recognized for its length and Ruby's restaurant at the end, the pier is a great way to appreciate the expansive Pacific Ocean. A stroll above gives view of the surfers below.  After parking, or descending the train at the nearby station, the pier offers a striking approach. Two long, sloped ramps straddle a small seafood eatery on the level below, wafting the aroma of fish and chips. The ramps culminate at the beginning of the pier, which then extends forward with a nearly limitless sensation. Gazing to the left and right, kids play in the sand and surfers play in the waves.

The Oceanside Pier is venue to many surfing competitions, and the built-in seating at the base of the pier is a tell-tale landmark denoting times of cheering fans. Strolling forward along the old wooden pier, there are two built structures along the way. Adjacent to the pier-top life guard tower, a gift and bait shop adorns the north edge while creating a gateway to the sea. Passing through, the designated rest area for Pelicans next to the bait shop echoes the respect we have for amazing winged creatures (sorry to the fish for whom the bait tolls). Continuing along, Ruby's restaurant in the distance seems a far distance, but the soothing breeze and sound of the waves makes the time pass quickly.

Visiting the pier is a great way to connect with the ocean. Imagining its construction and the multitudes of footsteps that have walked along it marks the moment in time we call the present, and offers the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful Southern California Pacific Ocean.
